Get Out Now: A game I wanted to make for myself
The power goes out. A radio tells you to leave. A first look at the cinematic survival thriller I’ve always wanted to play.
Visit the Get Out Now website for an immersive first look, with concept videos, a radio broadcast, and creepy sounds. Best with headphones.
Several Lucky Dreamer games are nearing release. So far, they’ve all been family-friendly, with some especially suited to younger players. I love making those games, but I also wanted to create something more personal. Something I’d want to play alone, late at night, with headphones on.
That game is Get Out Now: Not a Drill.
Want to get a feel for it first? Step into the Get Out Now website. With its radio broadcast, concept videos, and unsettling sounds, the website itself is already a pretty immersive experience. Best with headphones.
The feeling I want to create
I’ve always loved apocalyptic movies, especially the moments before anyone understands what’s happening. Life still looks normal. Something feels wrong. Then you hear or see something you can’t explain, and suddenly even familiar places feel unsettling.
That uncertainty is where I want this game to live.
I love the atmosphere of M. Night Shyamalan’s films: ordinary people, familiar surroundings, and the growing feeling that something is terribly out of place. I’m also fascinated by strange sounds and the stories around them. The once-mysterious Bloop. Reports of “sky trumpets” and distant metallic noises. What would it feel like to hear something enormous while walking through the woods in the dark?
And I’ve always loved the mystery around UFOs and UAPs, or unidentified anomalous phenomena. The unanswered questions, the puzzling accounts, and the possibility that something might be happening beyond our understanding all feed into the feeling I want to explore.
The idea behind the game
I’ve always liked being prepared for the unexpected, so I keep a small go bag packed with essentials. Emergencies rarely give you much warning.
That idea became the starting point for Get Out Now.
You’re home in the middle of the night when the power goes out. A radio message comes through:
Get out now.
For a moment, you freeze. Do you know what to do? Do you know where to go?
You grab your go bag, a flashlight, and a paper map. Then you leave.
Who sent the message? What are you getting away from?
Honestly, I haven’t decided exactly what the threat is yet. We’re exploring several ideas, and I’m enjoying that uncertainty myself. I know the feeling I want to create: a place that is creepy and beautiful, where you want to keep going even when you’re afraid of what you might find.
My dream game
This is the game I’ve wanted to make for myself: a cinematic, immersive experience that feels like stepping into a movie and living through it. I want the surroundings, the sound, and the unfolding mystery to pull you into that night.
Get Out Now will most likely be Lucky Dreamer’s first game built with Unreal Engine. That opens up exciting possibilities for the environments, lighting, and atmosphere. There’s plenty to learn and build, but I’m incredibly excited about where this could go.
I wanted to share a little of it early, so the website is now live at getoutnowgame.com. It includes concept videos, sounds, and an introduction to the premise. These are early explorations of the game’s mood and direction, and there’s still a lot taking shape.

I can’t wait to play this game. First, though, I need to build it.
